Recalls Plus Not Just For Overprotective Parents

Recall lists are not just for overprotective grandmothers or first time moms.  Often items that are recalled are those used by our children and especially babies.  You may remember the recent recalls of drop side cribs, soothers that caused fires or even tainted peanut butter.  With so many items being recalled each day, it is difficult to keep up on the recalls while maintaining a level of sanity.  SheSpeaks has teamed up with Recalls Plus, which is a free App for Iphone, Android and also accessible through Facebook.

The main page of the app has a stream of recalls listed showing the most recent recalls.  My first day using the app, I immediately spotted something we owned that was recalled.  Looks like our bike seat for the kids has caused injuries that were close to severing fingers.  The app then connected me to the company's information which allowed me to get a part to fix the latch which caused the injuries.
The daily list is very effective, but the ways in which you could tailor this application to meet your own needs are even more impressive.  Th user is able to plug in brands of items such as car seats, strollers, and crib to place on a personal watch list.  If these items are recalled, then you will be alerted.  Yesterday while doing a car seat check at our Mother of Preschoolers meeting I watched as the techs shared a print out of recalled car seats.  This application would serve them well.
The final thing that I loved about this list was the ability to tract allergy related food items. If you have a child with a peanut allergy and want to make sure they are not given tainted food, you simply disclose the harmful ingredient and they will alert you to any recall.  I was shocked to see the number of food recalls on the daily list.  I can only imagine that this list could bring a greater peace of mind to a parent of a child with a sever food allergy.

This is a totally free program, so think about downloading it as well as sharing this with friends.
