A Special Kind of Leap this Year

Yesterday was leap year and the day started off wonderfully, with me appreciating the little things in life like getting extra minutes sleep and an uninterrupted shower..  I spent the morning surrounded by some of my favorite women at church while my kids were being cared for wonderfully by their teachers.  At 11:30 as I went to pick up Cecily, I got a phone call from my husband.  He was working and was supposed to be in a training about natural gas safety, so I was surprised he was calling.  I am fine he says I am at the hospital now and being treated so don't worry.  Don't worry what?  I had been in my peaceful bubble at church all morning unaware of the news story that had been making its way around was that three firefighters were hurt and had been transported to the hospital. I got the call, not something you ever look forward to or even think about but I was so thankful to hear a coherent voice that I felt blessed to not have had the moments of unknowing worry.  Turns out that yesterday, the call could have been very different if things had not  gone amazingly well in the moment when the fire scorched up towards my husband trapping him on the top floor.  So though we are all painfully reminded of the serious level of danger in Rich's line of work, today we have praise that though injured  he is safe.
People often will say, I don't know how you do it having your husband in such a dangerous profession.  For me it is faith that God  protects him and we should not live in fear.  Rich keeps a small prayer square in his pocket that we received in church, yesterday he had it when he exited safely.  I had to explain to Cole everything that was occurring yesterday without alarming him too much.  I simply explained to Cole that God led dad to the window and he was able to get out safely.  He put it best later  to me when he said. " Mom, God showed Daddy the way, I know it."

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

  1. Kevin & I are so THANKFUL for God's protection on him. Know he has a large circle of firemen who also said a prayer last night for them.
    Hope he is better soon.
